Description

Property Brief: Hopewell Presbyterian Church – 80 West Broad St. (1915) – Summary
The current Hopewell Presbyterian Church was built in 1915 at the triangle where Louellen Street meets West Broad Street. The church moved from a Presbyterian Chapel building across the street (79 West Broad), which was built in 1877. The Education Wing to the west was added in 1968, and the Sanctuary and West Broad entrance were refurbished and reoriented in 2013. Circa 1887 and into the early 1900s, the Ege blacksmith shop was at the point of the triangle, and shoed horses and created other metal items from nails to plows and knives to door hinges. Next door was a wheelwright shop to build and repair wooden wheels for horse-drawn vehicles.
