Property Brief: Somerset Street, Hopewell
Somerset Street is the extension of Railroad Place in Hopewell Borough, east from Hamilton Avenue to the Hopewell Township line. After the removal of the Mercer & Somerset railroad tracks c1880, the area was used as a brickyard in the 1890s, and then developed as an industrial district on the north side, with residential lots on the south side. But starting in the 1990s, contamination of the area lead to major remediation efforts, so now there are no longer any traces of buildings or even soil from the earlier occupants.
