Goodbye to the Pennington Quality Market
After serving the Pennington community for 66 years at its Route 31 location, the Pennington Quality Market ended its run in June 2026, and reopened as McCaffrey’s Food Markets
This post summaries the PQM story from the beginnings as the Weart’s Store on North Main Street in 1930, the transition to the McVeigh brothers in 1934 with the Pennington Market Name, their move to the Route 31 location in 1960, the transition to the Rothwell family in 1981, and then through the transition to McCaffery’s Food Markets in 2026..

Along with the history of the Pennington Quality Market, site has over 190 images in the Image Gallery, illustrating the history and development of the PQM from 1930 to 2026.
These include scenes from the early Weart’s and McVeigh stores, and building exteriors and store interiors of the current site on Route 31.
There are also store signage, anniversary celebrations, and a variety of mementoes, artifacts, and objects.
