The Hopewell Township Police Department is celebrating its 50th anniversary (1994-2024) as a full-time police department this summer – and has kindly shared the 50th Anniversary Brochure plus department patches and other materials to memorialize the event.
The department was started as a part-time operation in the 1920’s or early 1930’s. The full-time department then began around the clock patrols on July 1, 1974 (instead of passing calls after midnight to the State Police barracks). (See the Hopewell Township Police Department History page.)

50th Anniversary Brochure
The Hopewell Township Police 50th anniversary has been memorialized with a 32-page brochure featuring the anniversary logo.

The 50th anniversary brochure includes lists of current and past personnel, chiefs, and officers; Township officials; historical photos of the Hopewell Township and Hopewell Borough police departments; and descriptions of current police programs, divisions, units, and community programs.
The previous 25th anniversary brochure from 1999 similarly lists then-current department members and past officers, with photos – plus a law enforcement TV trivia page. A companion 25th anniversary calendar has profusely illustrated sections covering the history of the department in the decades from the 1970s to the 1990s.

50th Anniversary Logo and Patch
As shown on the booklets, the 50th anniversary logo echoes the design from the 25th (1999), with the outline of the township, the police department patch on the west side, and the anniversary years. The logo will be mounted on HTPD vehicles this anniversary year.
The old patch on the 25th brochure is a curved triangle shape, with the scales of justice and horse head above (“Strength and Justice”). The new design features Washington crossing the Delaware (“Turning Point of the Revolution”), and was updated under the command of Chief Michael Chipowsky (1995-2006).
The 50th Anniversary patch version of the patch (above) adds the dates (1974 – 2024) and the line “Proudly Serving for 50 years.”
50th Anniversary Medal
There’s also a 50th Anniversary medal. One side is marked “50 Years of Service” with the older department curved triangle patch design, and the other side has a department badge with eagle above, also marked “50th Anniv.”
