July 2020 Update – Collections and Archives

Site updates for the month of July included several important new documents, a new Pamphlet Collection featuring the Hopewell Harvest Fair, a new page organizing the Hopewell Borough materials, and a major update to the Document and Map archives to organize the entries by town and by different document types.

By the numbers, we finished the month with 177 files in the Archives, including 74 documents and 103 maps and aerials. The Image Gallery now has 1605 files (with 1352 images of Hopewell Borough, 118 of Pennington, 52 of Titusville, 16 in the Township, and 67 images of Hopewell Borough events). The History Map includes 775 addresses with 102 historic places in Hopewell Borough. The new Pamphlet Collection has 107 files in 6 categories for 3 towns. Please keep the materials coming!

Hopewell History Pamphlet Collection

The Town Pamphlets Collection includes scans of leaflets and pamphlets distributed by local municipalities and organizations within the last 40-some years (e.g., “ephemera”). These are typically short informational handouts that capture interesting information on towns and businesses and people.

We have now scanned an almost-full set of 30 years of Hopewell Harvest Fair Almanacs from 1987 to 2019, a total of over 1100 scanned pages (two-page spreads). All the pamphlets are saved to Acrobat (PDF) format, with text recognition run on them so they are fully searchable.

New in the Document and Map Archives

The Document Archives added:

Expanded Archive Tables

The Document and Map Archives tables have a new Town column, so you can search, sort, and filter by the geographic area: HwBoro, PennBoro, MtRose, Titus-WC, HwTwp, MercerCty, or NJ.

The former Books category also has been expanded to Documents, which now has new subcategories: Books, Pamphlets, Reports, Notes, and Briefs. These also can be used to search, sort, and filter the table rows.

See About the Document and Map Archives for more information on the archive materials and on using the tables.

Hopewell Borough History Materials

The Hopewell Valley Places page provides an index to key materials for four communities in the Hopewell Valley, including images, maps, and site survey reports.

The new Hopewell Borough History Materials Index page then provides a visual index to the information specific to the borough across the site, including history briefs with write-ups on local places and organizations in the borough, the historical Image Gallery and panoramas of the borough, key historical documents and maps, and the Document and Map Archives with searchable tables of the entries.

Image Gallery

Various images from the additions to the archives also have been copied into the Image Archives and identified by street address, so they also appear in the Hopewell History Map.

Hopewell History Map

The Hopewell History Map provides a map interface to explore the collected information and images on historical properties in Hopewell Borough. Besides street addresses and historical property information, it displays images (and thumbnails) of street address images from the Image Archives (automatically including new images added this month).
