Hopewell Valley Historic House Tours

We’re heading into Autumn, so this is a great time to get out and about and enjoy the historic ambience of our valley and towns.

We now have a collection of some 25 historic house tour brochures that you can use to explore the area, including tours covering different parts of Hopewell Township, and walking tours in Pennington and Hopewell boroughs. These go back to Bicentennial tours in 1976, and continue to the present day.

The house tours are posted in the Pamphlet Collection of the Hopewell Valley History Project, which is organized by category (e.g., House Tours) and by town, and also can be searched by name.

Recent additions include the Pennington Historic Walking Tour Guide from around 1990, which is also available in an interactive website, and the HPL’s Hopewell Borough Architecture Walking Tour (PDF) from May 2019, with 12 examples of the range of architecture in our towns.

There are also two reference documents detailing the collection:

Thanks to the Hopewell Valley Historical Society, the Hopewell Public Library, the Hopewell Museum, and a variety of other contributors for information and copies of the brochures to scan.

Can you help us find additional tours, and fill in the gaps in this collection? There are at least 8 additional events for which we do not have brochures, and presumably more tours not yet listed.
