The October 2025 updates to the History Project included the history of Hopewell Valley funeral homes, and several mystery photos. (See Site Updates for more.)
Hopewell Valley Funeral Homes
The Hopewell Valley Funeral Homes report summarizes the funeral directors and funeral homes that operated in Pennington, Hopewell, and Titusville from the late 1800s into the present, as funeral services evolved from being organized by an Undertaker in the family’s home, to utilizing a Funeral Director who could host at a dedicated Memorial Home.
A separate report focuses on the funeral homes that operated at 10 Front St. in Hopewell Borough, from Israel G. Howell back to c1888, to Lorraine F. Blackwell, Francis C. W. Rorer, and Thurland B. Farr into the 1970s.
Mystery Photos – Baseball, Fire, Carnival
Here are three “mystery” photos – Baseball, Fire, Carnival. We know generally what they are but not specifics of the dates or people or the event that the photo is depicting.
These include a Hopewell Baseball team, probably from the 1940s, a group photo at the Hopewell Fire Department, perhaps 1940s, and the Hopewell Fire Department Carnival, also probably from the mid-1930s.

Please contact us if you have – or know of – other images and materials that we can share to help illuminate the history of our Hopewell Valley.
